“ I'd gone to Kachka years ago and found it underwhelming. But when plans fell through and I needed a restaurant quick, I ended up here for a second round, and I'm so glad I got the re-visit. This was delicious, and my guest described the dumplings (here called pelmeni) the best he'd ever had in Portland. I loved that they could accommodate lactose intolerance and cook in sunflower oil, but leave the creams on the side for my friend. Eating here reminded me to always trust the servers. They know the menu, and they know how much - or how little - to eat. We were steered perfectly to a delicious meal in a beautiful spot. Glad I came back. ”

“ Worth the hype and every penny. We came here for the first time last year, and immediately came back twice with all our friends. The Cod Liver Butterbrodi is by far our favorite thing on the menu. Other favorites: * Baltic Sprat Butterbrodi * Brindza Padgett * Literally all of the dumplings, but I'd have to say the sour cherry ones are my favorite * Rabbit in a Clay Pot My partner also LOVES the Golubsti. I grew up eating cabbage rolls so they just don't stand out to me like the other dishes do, but they're still pretty damn good. The vodka flights are quite fun as well. Order the horseradish vodka and the Rassol, and take a sip of the Rassol after the vodka. Service here is always top notch; servers are always willing to help us figure out what to order and how much food to get. ”

“ 4 & 1/2...There's few, if any things I am more of a proverbial sucker for than dumplings of most any culture/kind, and it's not hyperbole to say that the Siberian Pelmeni I snacked on during my midday bite here surely rank among the best I've ever had of any variant, as well as the single best thing I ate in Portland, where I had an outsize amount of very delicious things . I've sampled plenty of delicious versions of these Russian dumplings through the years, particularly down in the Russian enclave of Brighton Beach Brooklyn back home, but the ones here were given the classic PDX treatment of elevating the proceedings by upgrading the ingredients list and upping the technique in preparation, resulting in mind blowing results. The delightfully lilliputian, marble-sized cuties are prepared to the most delightful consistency with they're snappy delicious wrappers popping open in your mouth open biting them in the most whimsical of manners, bringing to mind a savory version of the experience of eating a gushers candy. The flavors gushing out are incredible. savory pork, veal and beef juices and meats commingling with a cacophony of different fresh herbs and served alongside a luscious glob of house made sour cream perfect for dredging the popping beauties in. I can't get the flavors and mouthfeel out of my mind. Equally delicious and beguiling was the bracing and effervescent horseradish infused vodka infusion, which basically split the difference between cocktail and shot, and which I likewise haven't been able to forget. The fact that I experienced this profound gastronomical event during the counter serve lunch hours when the menu is extremely limited only made me that much more eager to return here, and PDX in general again as soon as possible, as I can only begin to imagine what type of culinary wonders this geniuses would be producing come dinner time. The brilliance on the plate was matched by the singular, warm and vibrant decor, think a fairytale version of a Russian Grandmas county dacha as refracted through the gaze of a top-tier Portland interior designer, which I suspect is along the lines of how the place came together. Definitely a must visit when in town and again a spot I very much hope to get back to someday. ”

“ Admittedly this actually wasn't my favorite place to eat when I visited Portland. But I was still blown away by the flavors I tasted at Kachka. Never have had Russian food until I tried this place. Whenever I try a new kind of it's always a treat. And Kachka didn't disappoint. When you enter, theres a lot of fun decor all around. You definitely feel some kind of warmth when you enter. If you are eating lunch, you walk upstairs on the left to order food. Afterwards they will deliver the food to the table of your choice. So my plan of attack was the dumplings. Dumplings are a love of mine of any culture. I figured since I love those so much that it would be a good safe bet. But I was unprepared for the flavors I was going to encounter. My girl ordered some pastries and apparently and super tasty tea but my focus will be the dumplings. One on hand you have savory. This is the dumplings for the meat eaters. One bite and it's almost like it'll take you back in time. Beef, pork and Veal are the meats in these guys. While I am familiar with eating Veal, I know that some people might not enjoy with something is gamey but after you get past the other meat flavor and the spices, there is a hint of gaminess on the finish. It was very very slight but I still wanna warn people of that incase they order the Siberian Pelmeni. I personally liked it though. Thats the reason I said earlier that it took me back in time a little bit. To me it tasted like a recipe that could of been passed down for generations and if so I respect it. With all the meats and herbs theres sooo much flavor. But then...on the other end we had a almost a sweet type of dumpling. The Sour Cherry Vareniki was definitely the dish that surprised me. Maybe I should've saved them for dessert. I'm not even super crazy about Cherries but these dumplings were bomb. I thought the sourness and richness of the cherries went well with the mint/basil. All the food just has such complex profiles. Admittedly it's not the kind of food I think I can have all the time but trying these dishes out was a treat. Can't wait to try them out again sometime when I visit Portland. ”

“ Who knew Russia food would slap so hard? I sure as hell didn't. Thank goodness it was here that I popped my cherry. This was a treat for me picked by my friend's fiancée. Her choice did not disappoint. We all got the appetizer special which we had no idea was going to be so many plates. The whole table was filled with so many options. For a moment we actually didn't think we would be able to finish it all to make room for anything else. Yada yada yada - we ate it all. Lol We decided to get three mains - the duck, pierogi and cabbage. That pierogi was so good I mmmmmmd my way through every bite. Even after eating all of the things, I still insisted on trying a dessert. What an amazing place. It was crowded the whole time we were there. You'll have to do some waiting if you don't have a resy so make sure to book one. ”

“ Today there was a dumpling pop-up. It was absolutely amazing. Came with a couple friends so we were able to order a whole bunch of dumplings and taste everything except three of them. My favorite was the Chicago, hot dog and Nashville fried chicken. It really tested the way they said it would taste and that's what made it amazing. The fried chicken wasn't hot to me, but it had a kick for one of my friends. The corn one which I can't remember the name was also a favorite and it was so delicious. I would get more. Of the four dumplings we got that cheeseburger was overall the least exciting. We got panenzella salad and the ambrosia salad. I haven't eaten ambrosia salad since I was a kid. They were both delicious and so good. In the picture, they do not look like much but in your mouth is like a party. I would order both of these again. Overall, a huge success. However, their email had the wrong date so I think a lot of people will be disappointed tomorrow when they find out the pop-up is not there. ”
